18:06 IST and Local Time- This has been an unbelievable contest of cricket and the Calicut Globstars have snatched away a game from the jaws of defeat to clinch an 18-run victory. The Trivandrum Royals were well and truly ahead of the game even with five overs to go but they had a stunning collapse as they went from being 137/1 to 147/6. Once the two set batters Basheer and Pai were dismissed, the rest of the batters just crumbled under pressure.
The Trivandrum Royals were off to a bad start as Subin was dismissed in the very first over of the run chase. Basheer and Pai took their time eventually, but then they started to find the boundaries at regular intervals. The pair ensured that their team didn't fall behind the run rate and they got to 45/1 in the powerplay.
Post the field restrictions, the pair of Basheer and Pai began to accelerate and got more boundaries. Calicut skipper Rohan Kunnummal dropped Basheer and it was a big moment in the game. The Royals headed into the halfway stage of the game needing 91 runs to win from 60 balls and the match was evenly poised.
The bowlers failed to get the breakthroughs for the Calicut Globstars and Basheer made them pay as did Pai. Both the batters brought up their fifty and they upped the ante in the 15th over where they picked up 21 runs. It left them with only 43 to win from the final five and it seemed very much possible.
However, Nikhil M picked up a couple of wickets while Scaria came back into the attack to get one more. It meant that the Royals had new batters at the crease, and the required run rate kept mounting. It was the seam bowling trio of Nikhil, Scaria and Akhil Dev that pulled the game in favor of the Globstars. They were unbelievable at the death, and the flurry of wickets meant that they got through to the finals, as the Royals collapsed under pressure.
