The game still hangs in the balance with New Zealand closing out with 255/4 on the board trailing by just 50 runs to Sri Lanka's first innings total of 305.

Kamindu Mendis's 114 and Kusal Mendis's 50 helped Sri Lanka move past 300 with William O'Rourke (5/55) running through the host's batting order.

New Zealand got to a good start with opener Tom Latham hitting 70 and added 63 with Devon Conway & later 73 more for the 2nd wicket with Kane Williamson.

Williamson found runs under his belt and scored a well notched 55 in 104 balls before being dismissed by Dhananjaya de Silva. Rachin Ravindra got off to a good start to score 39 in 48 balls before misjudging an arm ball which he left only to find his off stump greeted by the ball.

Daryl Mitchell (41*) and Tom Blundell (18*) have addedd 59 for the 5th wicket so far and will resume proceedings tomorrow. Lankan skipper Dhananjaya de Silva picked up 2/31 with Prabath Jayasuriya (1/99) and Ramesh Mendis (1/69) taking a wicket apiece.
