10.33 PM IST: The Netherlands kicked off the Tri-Series 2024 with a commanding all-round performance, securing a convincing victory over Canada by 5 wickets.

Earlier Canada batted first, putting up a competitive total of 152/5 in their 20 overs. The innings started shakily, with early wickets falling, leaving Canada at 34/3 within the first 4.4 overs. Despite this, Kirton (69* off 58) anchored the innings, providing stability and playing a captain’s knock. He was well-supported by Ravinderpal Singh, who played a crucial cameo, scoring 39* off just 18 balls, which propelled Canada to a respectable score. The Canadian innings was characterized by solid partnerships, especially the unbroken 6th wicket stand of 72 runs between Kirton and Singh. For the Netherlands, Kingma, Meekeren, and Klein shared the wickets, with Klein being the pick of the bowlers, taking 3 wickets for 31 runs.

Chasing 153, the Netherlands got off to a solid start, with Max O'Dowd and Musa Ahmed providing a steady foundation. O'Dowd contributed 23 off 23 balls before being dismissed, but it was Vikramjit Singh's explosive 52 off 21 balls that put the Netherlands in a commanding position. Singh's knock was laced with boundaries, including 5 fours and 4 sixes. After Singh's dismissal, Michael Levitt played a composed innings, anchoring the chase with an unbeaten 62 off 47 balls. Despite a minor collapse towards the end, with the Netherlands losing a few quick wickets, Levitt guided his team home in 16.1 overs. Canada's bowling attack struggled to contain the Dutch batters, with Thaker and Zafar each taking two wickets. Netherlands' aggressive batting approach that ultimately sealed the victory, giving them an early lead in the series.
