That's it from the Women's Caribbean League 2024. Barbados Royals Women are crowned as the champions for this season!!

This will be it from our coverage of final of the WCPL 2024
. I am Arjun Bhalla signing off on behalf of my co-commentator Ajay Pal Singh and scorer/analyst Ashok Dayma. But do switch to the other tab as the CPL 2024 is about to kickstart today!!
Hayley Matthews (Barbados Royals Women Captain, Player of the Tournament): "I think I had a pretty good time. Contributed with both bat and ball. Would have loved to do more with the bat today but it is fine.

I think I am learning a lot. I had the opportunity to captain West Indies as well in the last few years. Yes, going back-to-back does feel good.

Yeah, it (WCPL) is a great prep for us (West Indies team for the T20 World Cup). Getting scenarios and performing under pressure will help us a lot. These leagues are bridging the gap between international and domestic cricket."
Deandra Dottin (Losing Captain): "We did a great job after losing two games. It was great to be back on the field, scoring runs and taking catches. Excited for the T20 World Cup."
Player of the Tournament: Hayley Matthews
Aaliyah Alleyne (Player of the Match): "I think it was a very fun job for the team. My team makes it easy for me. I think it will help me get the confidence going into the World Cup. Hopefully, I can deliver a similar performance in the World Cup."
Player of the Match: Aaliyah Alleyne
Highest Wicket-Taker Award: Hayley Matthews
Great Catch Award: Karishma Ramharack
Best Celebration Award: Aaliyah Alleyne
Time for the final presentation of the WCPL 2024
Chamari Athapaththu: "Before the game, I felt it could be my day. Wickets were falling from the other end, but I have played a lot of franchise cricket.

I love this batch of cricketers; I would love to come back next year to play for the Barbados Royals. I played for Guyana earlier but shifted to Barbados because of Kumar Sangakkara.

The stands were full, the crowd was backing.. it is really good for women's cricket."
Amanda-Jade Wellington: "It feels awesome. At the end, we nearly made a meal of it but I am sure the girls will celebrate long and hard tonight. We just wanted a local player to go out and win it for us. This is why me and (Georgia) Redmayne were waiting in the back.

Yeah, I love being part of the WCPL. It has been really good to see the talent on display and what West Indies cricket are doing to help their domestic cricketers."
3:44 AM IST and 6:14 PM Local Time: A clinical victory for the best outfit of this season, Barbados Royals, as they have outclassed the Trinbago Knight Riders on the biggest night of the tournament. They have been crowned as the champions of the Women’s Caribbean Premier League for the second time

Chamari Athapaththu took her side home on the big night with a memorable knock. The Lankan Giant slammed an unbeaten 39 off 47 balls, helping the Royals chase 94 runs in the finale.

Athapaththu and skipper Hayley Matthews shared a magical partnership of 48 runs for the opening wicket, which Samara broke Ramnath on her first ball of the season.

A couple of overs later, Qiana Joseph, who got promoted to number 3 on the big final, was sent packing after Shamilia Connell took a screamer at long-on. Anisa Mohammed trapped Aaliyah Alleyne on her web. Then, Athapaththu stitched a crucial stand of 16 runs with Laura Harris before the Royals lost a couple of wickets in a cluster to inject artificial excitement and put the Royals down to 87/6 in 13.4 overs.

However, the Asian maverick stood tall like a rock to take the Barbados Royals home by four wickets with 30 balls to spare.
14.6 S Ramnath to C Athapaththu
1 BARBADOS ROYALS ARE THE CHAMPIONS OF WCPL 2024. Chamari Athapththu finishes the game with an unbeaten knock of 39 and the whole squad runs onto the ground to celebrate what has been a dominant performance by the defending champions. Full and tossed up outside off. Athapaththu drills it hard back past the bowler. Takes the single and that is that. The Royals win the WCPL title by four wickets and 5 overs to spare.
14.5 S Ramnath to A Fletcher
1lb Length ball down the leg. Fletcher looks to flick it to fine leg but misses. Gets hit on the pads but squeezes in a leg bye. The scores are level.
14.4 S Ramnath to A Fletcher
2 Length ball outside off. Fletcher cuts it to deep point and comes back for an easy two.
