That's it from the coverage of this ODI. Both teams will be back in action on Sunday and make sure you join us then for all the action. Stick around to our network for all other cricketing actions across the globe and across formats. For now, this is Ayan Chatterjee signing off on behalf of my co-commentators Deepak Prakash and Soumarya Dutta alongside scorer/analyst Manish Bishnoi. Stay safe, happy, and cool. Goodnight and CHEERS!
INTERESTING FACT: Orla Prendergast registered her best bowling figures [8-0-25-03] and her highest score (122* off 107) in this contest.
Gaby Lewis (Ireland Women Captain): "Yeah, it was really enjoyable. In the ODI format, you can take a few risks and experiment with field placements, which I quite enjoyed. Kudos to the bowlers—taking early wickets made a big difference. Winning the toss also helped, especially with the conditions early on. But a special shout-out to Orla; she was absolutely brilliant today. It’s great to have players like her in the team.

The bowler coming back on was brilliant, and I think those last 20 overs showed our determination to stick it out until the very end. It’s easy to ease off, but we maintained our intensity, which was something we emphasized before the game. Transitioning from T20s to ODIs can sometimes lead to a lapse in pressure, but we kept pushing, and I’m really proud of the team for that.

Going into every series, you obviously aim to win. For this series, we specifically targeted this team because we believed we could compete with them. While they have big names, so do we. Players like Orla and Amy are at that level and should be recognized as such. I think that’s where we’re heading, and we’re on the right path.
Chamari Athapaththu (Sri Lanka Women Captain): "First of all thanks to Ireland team and they played good cricket. We should have got 280 and then dropped catches and some decisions went against us and that was it. Hopefully, we can bounce back in the next two games. These are challenges but we have to adjust to conditions as cricketers and I am glad we did well in patches but now have to bounce back well in the coming games. I think Vishmi played really well and she is a good cricketer and a talent for us. Many congratulations to her for her hundred."
Orla Prendergast (Player of the Match): "I think we knew how significant she (Chamari Athapaththu) was to their squad's strength. So, there was a lot of pressure to take that wicket early. And yeah, I was happy to get her out right at the start.

I think I went out to bat with Amy at the start. I love batting with her—we always run well together. So I focused on getting myself settled, and everyone who batted with me did a great job. They got into the game quickly, ran well, and made my job a lot easier.

Yeah, after a long 50 overs and some solid bowling, there was definitely some fatigue. But once we got close to the finish line, I found an extra gear to take it home. I'm definitely going to ask Gabby about this as well.

(on first points in women's championship) We’ve been hunting it down for a couple of years now, and we finally came away with it. Our first win is massive and shows a lot of progress in the group. Winning a 50-over match is always very challenging against strong teams. So, hopefully, there will be more to come in the next few days."

Time for the post-match presentation...
10:23 PM IST, 5:53 PM Local Time: A historic day for Ireland Cricket as they register their first win against Sri Lanka in ODIS. They beat Sri Lanka by 3 wickets with 4 balls to spare to go 1-0 up in the series and they did it thanks to an all round display from Orla Prendergast as she picked up three wickets with the ball and then an unbeaten century with the bat. Sri Lanka were sloppy in the outfield and they paid the price for it. Dropped catches hurting them badly.

Chasing 261 for a win, Ireland Women lost captain Gaby Lewis early. Sarah Forbes scored 30 off 46 balls. Amy Hunter scored 42 off 45 balls. But then it was the Orla Prendergast show as she played a masterful innings of 122* off 107 balls and took her side over the line. Rebecca Stokell scored 19 while Arlene Kelly scored 12. Jane Maguire scored 7* off 14 balls in the end. 13 extras given by the fielding side as the victory was achieved in 49.2 overs.

Kavisha Dilhari was the pick of the bowlers with figures of 4/54 in 10 overs. A wicket apiece for Sachin Nisansala and the new ball bowlers Udeshika Prabodhani, and Achini Kulasuriya. The Lankan Women were sloppy on the field and they paid the price for it with dropped catches off Orla Prendergast proving costly.

Earlier in the game, Sri Lanka were asked to bat first by Ireland. The Lankans lost their skipper Chamari Athapaththu for a golden duck. But it was the Vishmi Gunaratne show as she scored a majestic maiden ODI ton and finished with 101 off 98 balls. Harshitha Madavi Samarawickrama scored 19 while Hasini Perera scored 46 off 72 balls. Kavisha Dilhari scored 16 off 22 balls while Nilakshi de Silva scored 13. Keeper batter Anushka Sanjeewani scored 17 off 22. Sachini Nissansala remained unbeaten on 17* off 18 balls. Sugandika Kumari scored 18 off 13 balls. 10 extras given by the fielding side as Sri Lanka ended with 260/8 in 50 overs.

Orla Prendergast was the pick of the bowlers with figures of 3/25 in 8 overs. Alana Dalzell picked up 2/37 in 8 overs. Arlene Kelly picked up 2/42 in 9 overs. A wicket also to Alice Tector as well.

So, Ireland Women creates history by knocking off Sri Lanka Women by 3 wickets with 4 balls left to take a 1-0 lead in the 3-match series. Stay tuned for the presentations.
