That's it from all of us for this game. This is me, Akshay Bhide, signing off, on behalf of my co-commentator Deepak Prakash and scorer Raju Khariya. Ta ta. Bye bye.
4:51 PM IST, 12:21 PM Local Time: ABANDONED! The news coming from Sophia Gardens is that the game has been called off. It's such a shame that we couldn't get any action in this exciting top of the table clash. Both the Welsh Fire Women and the Northern Superchargers Women will share a point each. Let's hope that the weather clears and the men's fixture between these two franchises isn't affected.
4:43 PM IST, 12:13 Local Time: We have already started losing sets now. So, we will have a curtailed game if it starts. The shortest game possible is 25-balls per-side.
4:28 PM IST, 11:58 AM Local Time: A pitch inspection is scheduled at 12:00 PM Local Time, which is just two minutes from now.
4 PM IST, 11:30 AM Local Time: Nothing new to update. The rain has gotten heavier now and the covers are firmly in place. There is a lot of water present on the covers and the groundsmen are trying hard to wipe it.
Akshay: Hello Deepak, Raju and to everyone tuning in. Rain is playing spoilsport at the moment to what should be a mouth-watering clash between the table-toppers. Let's hope that the weather clears soon and we get some action today.

The Welsh Fire have managed to get their bowling unit right before this clash. Their batters were firing but it's good to see that their bowlers stepped up in their last game. The Northern Superchargers, on the other hand, have been firing in unison and are a team to beat in this tournament. It will be a real challenge for the Fire today to retain their top position.

With the rain around, we might see a truncated contest. So, I feel it will be about how the bowlers perform today. There won't be much assistance for the spinners and it will all come down to how the pacers go about their business today in these overcast conditions.
Deepak: Howdy, folks! While we wait for the rain to stop, let’s welcome Akshay into the commentary box. Hey buddy, you have been closely following the Men’s and Women’s Hundred. Both Welsh Fire and Superchargers have performed well so far and are at the top of the table. Could you shed light on what strategies they should follow to sustain their position on the points table?
3:34 PM IST, 11:04 AM Local Time: Bad news, folks! It's drizzling at the venue and the covers are firmly placed on the pitch. Even the square is covered. According to the broadcasters, we will start losing balls from 4 PM IST (11:30 AM Local Time).
There was a bit of rain in the air this morning at Sophia Gardens. With clouds hovering over the ground, pacers are likely to enjoy some assistance early in the innings if we get a game today.

The games are thick and fast in The Women's Hundred 2024 as Welsh Fire Women host Northern Superchargers Women at Sophia Gardens, Cardiff, in the 21st match of the ongoing season on Thursday (August 8). It's another double-header in the fourth edition of this entertaining format.

At present, Welsh Fire Women are on top of the points table, with 8 points from 5 matches, winning four and losing one fixture. They are in superb form, winning their last three matches comfortably.

Interestingly, the Fire Women have successfully chased on four occasions, while the only occasion when they batted first in the ongoing edition of The Women's Hundred, they failed to defend the score.

The Tammy Beaumont-led side recently defeated Southern Brave Women by 7 wickets. Bowling first, the Fire Women bundled out the Brave Women for just 84 in 91 balls. Hayley Matthews was the pick of the bowlers, bagging three wickets, while Freya Davies and Jess Jonassen snapped two wickets each. Beth Langston and Georgia Davis contributed a wicket each to the Brave Women's downfall.

Despite a couple of early setbacks, Welsh Fire Women rode on the useful knocks from the skipper Beaumont, wicketkeeper Sarah Bryce and Jonassen to complete the chase in 90 balls.

Shabnim Ismail
had some fitness concerns, so she has been missing out on a few outings. If the Proteas Women's pacer recovers in time, Ismail will get back into the XI.

Northern Superchargers Women, on the other hand, are not too far behind. They are placed second with 7 points from 5 matches. The Superchargers Women have won three, lost one and tied one match.

Like their counterparts, the Hollie Armitage-led side is in top form. Though they started the season with a defeat, the visitors haven't been on the losing side in the previous four encounters and are heading into this game on the back of a hat-trick of wins.

Recently, the Superchargers Women based Birmingham Phoenix Women by 61 runs. Batting first, the Armitage-led side posted a competitive 115/5 in 100 balls. It was a good recovery by Northern Superchargers Women as they lost their top three inside the powerplay. It was again Annabel Sutherland who led the recovery along with the help of Alice Davidson-Richards.

It was a complete decimation of the Phoenix Women when they came back for the run chase. An all-round bowling performance from the Superchargers Women saw them knocking over the Ellyse Perry-led side for a mere 54 in 86 balls. Georgia Wareham and Linsey Smith scalped three wickets each, while Grace Ballinger grabbed two wickets, with Sutherland and Kate Cross chipping in with a scalp each.

Both teams are flying high at the moment, which could lead to a thrilling fixture.

Who will be bossing the top-of-the-table clash? To find out, join us at 3 PM IST and 10:30 AM Local Time on Thursday for its live coverage!
