PHEW!!! What a contest we just witnessed. USA create history by beating Pakistan in a Super Over. They win two in a row in this World Cup and the Asian side gets off to a losing start. It was a humdinger of a contest and expect more from this edition of World Cup. For now, you can switch tabs as Scotland are facing Namibia in Barbados.

It's time for us to take your leave. This is Akshay Bhide, signing off, on behalf of my co-commentators Ninaad Dixit, AkshayaKrishna Polya and Ajay Pal Singh and scorer Paras Yadav. Until next time, cheers and goodbye.
Monank Patel (USA Captain): "Winning the toss and the way we bowled in the first six overs was brilliant. We had picked up three wickets in the powerplay and the way we bowled, we continued bowling till the 12th over and it was fantastic. We knew they will get the partnership but we knew they will take chances. But the way me and Gous batted was really good.

Playing in the World Cup, you don’t get a chance every year to play in the World Cup. You don’t always get a chance to play Pakistan and you have to be at your best while competing against them."
Babar Azam (Pakistan Captain): "I think, the first six overs while batting, we couldn't capitalize. We couldn't get the momentum and we lost back-to-back wickets. You have to really step up as a batter to build partnerships.

To be honest, we were not up to the mark in the first six overs. Our spinners also were not picking wickets in the middle overs. We will come back stronger but we were not up to the mark today. We will learn from the mistakes.

Very hard. Credit to the USA team for playing well in all the departments. They played well and hence, they won the match.

There was a little bit moisture early in the game. A few were coming onto the bat nicely and a few were stopping a bit. You have to adapt to the conditions quickly and we failed to capitalize in the first six overs."

Monank Patel (Player of the Match): "It's a big achievement. Beating Pakistan while facing them for the first time is a great effort. It was a complete team performance from us. We did a fine job after electing to bowl first to restrict them to 159 and then chasing it down.

I'm happy with my performance but more happy with the win. The plan was to get a good partnership from the top three. Me and Gous put a good partnership.

The plan between me and Gous was to play the cricketing shots. He took the pressure off me and we built a solid partnership to take it deep.

You know, as a batsman and as a player, you want to show off in the big games. Whatever I score, it has to be in the winning cause."

1:17 AM IST, 2:47 PM Local Time: It was a long wait of 5 hours and 17 minutes before we had a winner on this exciting contest in Group A of the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2024 where the co-hosts United States of America have defeated Pakistan in the Super Over. A big upset in the tournament but a well deserved victory!

It all started at the toss for skipper Monank Patel as he flipped it in his favor electing to bowl first. Nosthush Kenjige's 3/30 alongside some tremendous bowling from Saurabh Netravalkar and Ali Khan kept Pakistan at bay as they could add just 159/7 in their 20 overs.

USA lost Steven Taylor inside the powerplay for 12. Skipper Monank Patel got a life when Iftikhar Ahmed at slip didn't move to attempt a possible chance. The skipper scored 50 in 38 balls and was the 4th batter out with the team needing 49 in 35 balls.

Andries Gous partnered the skipper to add 68 runs for the 2nd wicket and scored 35 in 26. Aaron Jones, the hero for US in their tournament opener finished the game with an unbeaten 36 in 26 balls with Nitish Kumar hitting his only boundary on the last ball of the match with the team needing 5 runs to win.

Mohammad Amir got the ball in the Super Over but a flurry of wides and sloppy fielding saw USA score 18 runs in 6 balls despite hitting just 1 boundary. Saurabh Netravalkar, ex-skipper was tasked with defending the score. He started with a dot, conceded a boundary, bowled a wide but got rid of Iftikhar on the 3rd ball thanks to a tremendous catch from substitute Milind Kumar. 14 from 3 soon became 7 off 1. A tidy line and length was enough to give USA a historic win over Pakistan putting them on the top of the table in Group A.

A HISTORIC MOMENT FOR USA. THEY BEAT PAKISTAN IN THE SUPER OVER. Crazy scenes here in Dallas as the USA players storm towards Saurabh Netravalkar who holds his nerves in the Super Over.
0.6 S Netravalkar to S Khan
1 USA HAS DONE THE UNTHINKABLE!! Saurabh Netravalkar take a bow!! Full and outside the off stump. Shadab can only hit it along the floor to deep cover for a single!! United States of America defeat 1 time T20 World Cup champion side Pakistan in the Super Over!!
7 required from the last ball. A six will mean that we will go in another Super Over. Netravalkar has to make sure that he keeps his front foot behind the line. Here we gooo!!! Shadab on strike.
0.5 S Netravalkar to S Khan
2 Low full toss outside the off stump. Hits it down the ground between long off and long on. The latter runs across and throws it to the bowler. Fakhar somehow rushes inside the crease at the danger end.
Streaky boundary for Pakistan. Not a bad delivery from Netravalkar. Pakistan need 9 from 2 balls.
0.4 S Netravalkar to S Khan
4lb Lucky runs for Pakistan. Netravalkar bowls it full and outside off, Shadab premeditates as he shuffles across the stumps, gets a step into the off side and looks to sweep it but misses. It clips his front pad and runs away past the diving keeper for a boundary. Third man is up inside the circle and it runs away for four leg byes.
