Opting to bat first, the Melbourne Stars compiled a total of 133/6 from 20 overs. The trio of Meg Lanning 13 (15), Sophia Dunkley 5 (10) and Annabel Sutherland 6 (10) departed cheaply as the Adelaide spinners got into the act.
Alice Capsey 25 (26) did show some stability out there in the middle before getting stumped to Anesu Mushangwe. Capsey did string a 41 run stand alongside Maia Bouchier 48 (38) who topped the charts for her side and got them to a decent first innings total.
Bouchier struck six fours and a six while batting at a strike rate of 126.31. For the Stars, it was Megan Schutt who once again stood out with the ball in hand as she bowled a spell of 2/21 from four overs. The likes of Anesu Mushangwe, Georgia Adams, Amanda-Jade Wellington and Jemma Barsby chipped in with a wicket apiece.
As for the run chase, Laura Wolvaardt 2 (5) was dismissed early as Kim Garth got her bowled in the second over. Tahila McGrath 10 (8) did strike a couple of quick boundaries but got too streaky as she attempted to scoop Alice Capsey and was LBW.
However, opener Katie Mack 48 (40) and Bridge Patterson 27 (24) struck a 54 run partnership to ease off the nerves for the Adelaide Strikers. Mack struck six boundaries while batting at a strike rate of 120, made sure to keep the scoreboard ticking and proved to be the top scorer for her side.
Sophia Dunkley did bag two wickets in the middle overs but that couldn’t add pressure on the Strikers as Madeline Penna 28 (28)* stayed there till the end to anchor her side to a win.
For the Strikers, it was Alice Capsey who impressed the most with her spell of 2/19 from four overs. Sophia Dunkley contributed with 2/30, whereas, Kim Garth and Annabel Sutherland also bagged a wicket each.
