Match Details
Earlier, South Africa were asked to bat first and they had a good start as their top order found runs at the top. However, they lost wickets regularly in the second half of their innings and could post just 155 runs on the board. For New Zealand, Tahuhu and Penfold got a couple of wickets, while Kerr got the wicket of Tryon at the backend.
Coming in to chase a target of 156 runs. New Zealand had a decent start but lost their opener Anderson early. Bates and Kerr came together to stitch a 97-run partnership to keep the required run rate in check initially and increased the scoring rate rapidly once they were well set. Kerr got to her half-century but Bates became the only batter to cross the 4000 run mark in WT20Is.
New Zealand looked well in control to chase this total, but once Kerr was at the start of the 18th over, the White Ferns had an absolute collapse and went on to lose this game by 11 runs. For South Africa, all hope seemed lost for the first three-quarters of this run-chase. However, Klaas got two wickets in the 18th over and provided her side with an outside chance. Klerk and Khaka bowling in the last two overs supported her well and helped South Africa pull off an amazing win here today.
