That brings us to the end of the first match of the MLC, the Texas Super Kings kick off their MLC 2023 campaign with a resounding 69-run victory over the Los Angeles Knight Riders.

Do join us for all the upcoming games from all around the globe. For now, it's me Saipavan Janaki signing off along with my esteemed co-commentator Anirudh Modi and scorer/analyst  Ashok Dayma. Until then stay safe and enjoy!

Faf du Plessis | Texas Super Kings Captain:" Really pleased with the win. Good to see the local boys perform well today. Overseas players can win you a game but you always need the local boys to step up. (Coetzee) He is a really exciting talent.

One of the talents that can play all formats. Good to see him playing T20 cricket around the world. The Super Kings friends and family always come to support wherever we play. To see a full house fans, thank you everyone.
"
Sunil Narine | Los Angeles Knight Riders Captain:" Yeah I think we lost more wickets in powerplay it was tough it never happens but now it happens today. They got 15-20 runs extra if we do better fielding that might be avoided but I don't point anyone. (Russell) He's been doing well and it is a good sign that he's in good form."
David Miller | Player of the Match: "Thanks very much, it's good to get off to a good start. Just a month off IPL and just been a couple of days since I've been here and it's been good at Texas. I'm getting 34 now, just to maintain the body, stuff like running you need to keep going even during rest.

Opening game here, it's fantastic to see such a turnout. We appreciate all the support. The facilities have been fantastic, and as Faf mentioned with the new guys it's been kind of like what's it like but they've been answered."
Player of the Match: David Miller
Power Hitter: David Miller (Longest Six: 105 Metres)
Play of the Day: Gerald Coetzee
9:25 AM IST, 10:55 PM Local Time | Time for the post match presentation ceremony..
Rusty Theron | Texas Super Kings: "I'm a bit emotional to be honest, just to be here and be a part of this grand event, means a lot to this sport in the country and thanks to Major League Cricket to put me on the park. I just wanted to thank everyone for being here, my family and friends. I'm happy that we won, amazing performance, I don't like to lose. The fireworks are going off, thanks to everyone for coming out tonight. Let's make this our home, let's make this our den, welcome to the Texas Super Kings.

Excellent from all our players today, surely more to come from Faf and the boys."
09.15 AM IST and 10.45 PM Local: That's it....Texas Super Kings started their MLC campaign with a comfortable 69-run win over Los Angeles Knight Riders, showcasing their dominance in the match. They displayed strong performances in all aspects of the game, setting a positive tone for their journey in the tournament.

Earlier in the game, Los Angeles Knight Riders won the toss and elected to bowl first.  Super Kings got off to a shaky start with the dismissal of Faf du Plessis for a golden duck. However, Devon Conway and David Miller came together to steady the innings with a crucial partnership of 77 runs.

Conway played a fluent knock, reaching his half-century before being dismissed for 55 runs off 37 balls. Miller took charge from there and played a brilliant innings, scoring 61 runs off just 42 deliveries. Their contributions, along with late cameos from Mitchell Santner and Dwayne Bravo, propelled the Super Kings to a competitive total.

The Knight Riders were let down by their fielding, with three dropped catches and several errors proving costly. Lockie Ferguson and Ali Khan stood out with their bowling performances, both claiming two wickets each, while Sunil Narine and Adam Zampa contributed with a solitary wicket each.

In their pursuit of a target of 182 runs, the Los Angeles Knight Riders had a disastrous start, losing five wickets within the first six overs. Their top-order batsmen failed to make an impact, with Martin Guptill and Nitish Kumar departing without scoring a single run. Unmukt Chand and Rilee Rossouw also fell cheaply, contributing just four runs each.

Jaskaran Malhotra provided some respite with a quickfire knock of 22 runs off 11 balls, injecting some momentum into the innings. Andre Russell and Sunil Narine steered the sinking ship in the middle overs as they both posted 47 runs before Narine walks off the field at 15 runs off 13 balls.

Russell, known for his explosive hitting, displayed his prowess once again as he notched up a well-crafted half-century. He played an aggressive innings, smashing 55 runs off 34 balls, which included seven boundaries and three sixes. However, despite their efforts, the Knight Riders struggled to build significant partnerships and continued losing wickets at regular intervals.

Ultimately, they were bowled out for 112 runs in just 14 overs, falling well short of the target. Mohammad Mohsin emerged as the standout bowler for the Texas Super Kings, wreaking havoc with his remarkable figures of 4 wickets for only 8 runs in three overs. Gerald Coetzee and Juan Rusty Theron provided valuable support with two wickets apiece, while Dwayne Bravo and Calvin Savage claimed a wicket each.
