It’s a wrap from the T20I series and it’s Bangladesh who have roared their way to an emphatic 3-0 win over the World Champions England.
It was great fun to cover the final T20I game and the series as it had some great moments throughout. Let’s hope for more such entertaining fixtures as we head forward. Until then, do take very good care of yourselves as this is Wali, Ninaad and Dushyant signing off!
So that’s that and it’s Bangladesh that have created history as they’ve whitewashed the World Champions England 3-0 after registering a win by 16 runs in the final T20I!
Batting first, Bangladesh got off to a solid start as Litton Das and Rony Talukdar accumulated a 55 run opening stand in 7.3 overs. That’s when Adil Rashid got into the act and dismissed Talkudar 24 (22) after getting him caught and bowled.
However, the hosts rolled on the momentum forward with Litton Das and Najmul Hossain Shanto powering their way through an 85-run stand. The wicket keeper batter was in fine touch as he secured a knock of 73 (57) which consisted of 10 fours and a six.
Just when it looked like the hosts could power their way to a first innings total of somewhere close to 180, that’s when the likes of Chris Jordan and Sam Curran pulled back things for England.
Chris Jordan got the big wicket of Das after getting him out caught at the deep mid wicket region. Shanto too wasn’t able to cope up with the variations as England conceded just 20 runs from the final three overs off the first innings.
This eventually got Bangladesh to 158-2 from 20 overs.
The run chase started off in the most unideal manner for England as Philp Salt got stumped on his very first ball by the debutant left-arm spinner Tanvir Islam.
However, Dawid Malan and Jos Buttler did take matters into their own hands and contributed to a 95 run stand from 13 overs. At one stage it seemed that the two batters will cruise their way to the finish line and get England that consolation win. But Bangladesh and Mustafizur Rahman’s eventful 14th over revived hope for the hosts as they bagged two wickets in two balls and that too of both Malan and Buttler.
Malan edged one to the keeper at 53 (47), whereas, Mehidy Hasan’s brilliantly executed direct hit got rid of the dangerous Jos Buttler for 40 (31) on the very next delivery.
Moeen Ali did manage to hit a six but was dismissed soon after for 9 (10) as Taskin Ahmed got him out-caught.
Ben Duckett did try to show some grit but was cleaned up by a peach of a delivery bowled by Taskin Ahmed for 11 (11). As a result of the wickets falling in regular intervals the Bangla Tigers were able to do the unthinkable as they secured the series by 3-0.
Star bowler Taskin Ahmed stood-out thanks to his spell of 2/26 from four overs. Mustafizur Rahman added further pressure on the English batters as he gave away just 14 runs and picked up a wicket from his four overs. Tanvir Islam and Shakib Al Hasan also chipped in with a wicket apiece as the bowling unit restricted England to 142-6 from 20 overs.
Jos Buttler and co. will feel extremely disappointed to not get the win despite being 100-1 at one stage. As for Bangladesh, they’re just a hard team to beat at home and this series result is just the perfect example that supports this claim.
