New Zealand Women lost both of their openers early in the game which put them on the back foot straight away, NZW did not get off to the start they were looking out for. Suzie Bates and Sophie Devine couldn’t contribute much today. Amelia Kerr and Maddy Green stitched a much-needed partnership of 37 runs for the third wicket. Maddy Green was dismissed on 14 runs off of 25 balls.
Lauren Down joined Amelia Kerr at number five and together they put up a partnership of 28 runs for the 4th wicket before Amelia Kerr departed after a promising innings of 30 runs off 56 deliveries. Lauren Down showed some grit with the bat as she reached her third ODI fifty and helped her team to get to 168 in the end.
West Indies women lost two wickets early on but Stafanie Taylor and Hayley Matthews steadied the ship and put up a match-winning partnership. Matthews struck a brilliant 40 of 70 balls which included 3 fours. Taylor on the other hand scored 51 of 89 balls with 4 boundaries! WIW were on cruise mode but when Matthews got, Taylor started struggling with cramps and had to make her way out to the dressing room!! This allowed NZW to get back into the game.
New Zealand Women picked up 2 back to back wickets and there was a glimmer of hope. However, Alleyne and Selman batted sensibly at the end and took their team over the win. A consolidation victory in a series loss!! This win will help them gain some confidence before the start of the T20 series!
