That's it from our coverage of the 6th SLC Invitational T20 League fixture between SLC Blues and SLC Reds from the R. Premadasa Stadium, Colombo. We hope you enjoyed our coverage. Megh Mandaliya here, signing off on behalf of my co-commentator Tugral Azmi and scorer/analyst Zeeshan. Tune in for the final fixture between the SLC Blues and SLC Reds, which will take place on the 15th of August. See you there!
Megh: That’s it! That sweeps the group round of the SLC Invitational League and we have our finalists. The Reds qualify for the finals alongside the Blues, who already consolidated their place a long time ago. Both the teams were the best in the business, and rightly deserve the position in the finale. The Reds, however, had an exceptional outing today, having an upper edge on the Blues.
They were outperformed by the Reds and lost their initial fixture in this league. Maheesh Theekshana pushed the Reds to an electrifying start with the bowl as he clinched a wicket on the second ball of the innings. Although an early wicket didn’t trouble the Blues much as Sadeera Samarawickrama and Lahiru Udara stitched 53 in the powerplay, however, Wanindu Hasaranga’s economical spell of 2/18 kept them under the wraps.
First, Hasaranga orchestrated an unbeaten 69 (41) followed by an outstanding spell, where he showcased different variations and bewildered the batters. The partnership of Sadeera and Udara was proving treacherous for the Reds, before - got the better off Wanindu in the 7th over.
178 made by the Reds, courtesy of Kusal Mendis 86 (60), proved a little too much for the Reds. In the end, it was a comprehensive win for the Reds by 33 runs. The SLC Invitational League will play a decisive role in selecting Sri Lanka’s squad for the upcoming Asia Cup and the World T20.
So far, we have witnessed some stupendous performances from the youngsters as well as the players who are well versed in playing international cricket. Now, one last game remains, and it’s between the best two teams in the tournament - Blues vs Reds.
