The Sydney Sixers move to the top of the WBBL table with another commanding win as they defeat the Adelaide Strikers by 17 runs here at Mackay. Sophie Ecclestone was the hero in the second innings after picking up 4 wickets for 17 runs in 4 overs also running out Laura Wolvaardt at short midwicket.
Player of the match Suzie Bates (82*) and skipper Ellyse Perry (58) were the dominators in the first innings after the Sixers won the toss and decided to bat, getting a strong total of 151/2 at the break. Darcie Brown and Megan Schutt picked up a wicket apiece and were the only bowlers to keep the scoring rate in check.
In response, the Strikers playing their first match of the season started off in style thanks to some good strokes from Deandra Dottin (25) who added 33 runs in the powerplay getting out on the final ball of the phase. Her opening partner Katie Mack played the anchor and top scored with 34 and added 44 runs for the 2nd wicket with Wolvaardt.
After the partnership was broken, the Strikers kept losing wickets at regular interval and failed to allow them any chance to go for the win with 37 needed off the final 3 overs. Ecclestone continued her form with the ball and picked up 2 more wickets in the final over of the game.
