Match Details
5:10 PM IST | Probuddha: That brings us to the end of the first clash for the BBL 12. An enthralling match where none of the teams managed to bat up to their potential. A low-scoring but thoroughly entertaining match.
Earlier, Sydney Thunder won the toss and opted to field first. The Melbourne Stars lost their first wicket in the 3rd over of the innings. The team’s score at this stage was 24 runs, but they failed to revive themselves and kept losing wickets at regular intervals. In the end, they managed to reach just 122 runs in their 20 overs.
The highest scorer for the Stars was Nick Larkin who scored 25 runs off 26 deliveries. The pick of the bowlers for the Thunder was Daniel Sams who picked up 2 wickets for 21 runs from their 4 overs.
In the chase, Thunder faltered at the very beginning as Trent Bould picked up two wickets in the first over. Much like their opponents, they kept losing wickets at regular intervals and were down to 71 for 6 in the 12th over of the innings.
But Alex Ross (28 off 27) kept fighting the battle for his team and tried to take the match deep but was dismissed in the 15th over of the innings. This got the Thunder in trouble but Gurinder Sandhu kept his cool and took the match to the last over.
However, a six of the fourth delivery once again changed the complexion of the game and then a fumble by Joe Clarke of the last ball meant that Thunder won the match by one run.
