Chasing a paltry 131 for victory, Finn Allen and Devon Conway got their team off to a terrific start. The duo scored 57 in the powerplay and carried on to play their shots all-round the park. Finn Allen in particular was brutal against pace and spin as he scored a match-winning 62 off just 42 balls in a 117-run partnership with Conway.
The youngster hit 6
huge SIXES and looked in fine form. Devon Conway remained unbeaten on 49 off 46
balls and Williamson completed the formalities with 9* to get the victory
in just over 16 overs to chase 131.
Pakistan bowlers did not have much to defend and the bowlers were not up to the mark. The seamers were expensive. Shadab Khan picked a wicket for 26 in his 4-over spell and was the only wicket-taker for his side.
Earlier in the day, Opting to Bat 1st, Pakistan
got off to a decent start with Rizwan and Azam (21 off 23) who put on 30 for
the 1st wicket. Rizwan departed for 16. Shan Masood walked in at 3 and played
some good shots but was dismissed for 14 in the 8th over. The middle order
crumbled to spin and Pakistan was in trouble at 77 for 5 in the 14th over. I
Ahmed (27 off 27) and Asif Ali (25* off 20) joined hands in the middle and
stitched 51 for the 6th wicket in 35 balls and got Pakistan to 130 in 20 overs.
The New Zealand bowlers were on top throughout
with spinners doing the maximum damage. Bracewell was the pick of the bowlers
with 2 for 11 in his 4 overs. He was well backed up by Southee and Santner who
got 2 a-piece. Ish Sodhi rounded off with a wicket in his spell. A tidy bowling
performance overall from the Kiwis.
A Comprehensive win for the Kiwis here as they sail through over Pakistan by 9 wickets.
