NIKHIL: So, we are done here with New Zealand winning the game as they defeat West Indies by 50 runs, as they fail to chase down the target of 212 runs in a rain curtailed game.
New Zealand started sluggishly scoring 32 in the first 10 overs their top order as they lost 3 wickets. Caribbean Pacers were outstanding as the Kiwi’s lost their top order cheaply to them. The 4th wicket partnership of 84 runs between Mitchell and Allen stabled the ship for the visitors. Finn Allen was the top scorer for the Kiwi side as he scored 96 runs falling just 4 short of his century.
For West Indies, Sinclair who is playing just the 2nd ODI scalped 4 wickets, Holder took 3 today, Akeal Hosein grabbed a couple and Alzzari Joseph took a wicket too.
In reply to the target set by the Visitors, Indies started in the worst possible manner losing 6 wickets in the powerplay as they managed to bag 27 runs in it.
The top order along with the middle order got bundled out in the powerplay itself as they got stunned by the pace battery of the Kiwis. Nobody managed to put up a fighting batting display as they all just came and went like nutshells on a sea shore. It was for the 9th wicket partnership between Cariah and Joseph of 85 runs to show the top order how they should have played to attain a positive result. The newbie on the international circuit Cariah along with Alzzari Joseph were the only ones who showed some resistance as they scored 52 runs and 49 runs respectively.
For New Zealand, Boult and Southee started brilliantly and picked up more than half of the Indies squad in the powerplay itself. Southee picked up 4 wickets, whereas, Boult managed to take 3 wickets. Glenn Phillips came as a surprise element in balling and he took the wicket of Akeal Hosein. Santner then chipped in with the wicket of Cariah to wrap the innings.
New Zealand win the game with relative ease at the end, the innings from Finn Allen of 96 proved vital in deciding the course of this game. As a result, New Zealand win this as they level the series at 1-1 in this 3-game series. We are all set for the Silverware decider on Sunday.
