Arya- Lucknow Super Giants went into the second innings a lot more confident after the little flourish towards the end of the innings by Mohsin Khan and Dushmantha Chameera. They gained confidence from their performance with the bat and proved to be the wreckers in chief for the LSG. Mayank Agarwal got off to a good start striking some blistering blows but his partner at the other end, Shikhar Dhawan had a torrid time before departing on 5 of as many as 15 deliveries.
That halted their momentum in the powerplay but Mayank Agarwal tried to keep the scoring rate up as he smashed some good blows. Mayank was the first man dismissed followed by Shikhar Dhawan but with the batting line-up Punjab, they were still the firm favourites to chase that down. Liam Livingstone and Jonny Bairstow build a good partnership in the middle which settled the nerves for Punjab.
However, there was a cluster of wickets which again put Punjab on the backfoot. Krunal Pandya was the pick of the bowlers as he bowled with guile and deception and finished with figures of 2/11 in his 4 overs spell. He dried out the boundaries in the middle overs which amounted to the pressure and Punjab Kings couldn’t really kick on.
Rishi Dhawan was the next man in at the fall of Bairstow wicket and he took as many as 8 deliveries to get off the mark. The required rate was still a manageable one but with several play and misses it got to a situation which became almost impossible. With 31 required of the final over, Rishi Dhawan finally redeemed himself smashing a six and a four in the first two deliveries but Avesh Khan was good enough to keep Dhawan in check in the next four deliveries.
