Arya: Earlier in the day it was the DC skipper Rishabh Pant who won the toss and put Gujarat Titans in. They lost an early wicket in the form of Mathew Wade as Mustafizur Rahman struck early. However from there on it was a Shubhman Gill show on display. He started off with brilliant shots on the up and then waited for a bit when wickets fell at the other end and when there was a partnership going, he put his foot on the accelerator and smashed the DC bowlers all around the park.
The best thing with Gill’s knock was he hardly tried to play any slogs. He batted with composure and tried to play straight. Some of his sixes oozed class as he raced off to 84 in 46 deliveries, an innings which was laced with 6 fours and 4 sixes. Hardik Pandya anchored the innings around with a knock of 31 of 27 deliveries while it was David Miller and Rahul Tewatia who struck some lusty blows in the end overs to take their side to a more than competitive score of 171.
Lalit Yadav and Rishabh Pant shared a very good partnership to bring DC back into the game after three quick wickets. Both the batters batted sensibly and struck the boundaries at crucial junctures to not allow the required rate to creep up. Lalit Yadav was run out against the run of play. Pant kept playing some big shots but ended up giving his wicket away cheaply to Lockie Ferguson in his 2nd spell.
With so many wickets falling at regular intervals, it became a mountain too steep to climb for the Delhi Capitals. With 29 required of the final 3 overs, Mohammed Shami was given the ball and he didn’t disappoint. He picked up Rovman Powell very first ball and backed it up with the wicket of Khaleel Ahmed the very next delivery and from there on it was a bridge too far for them.
Arya: What a sensational bowling performance by the Gujarat Titans as they register their 2nd victory of the competition in as many matches. The target of 172 could have been a tricky one for the Delhi Capitals had they lost early wickets. Prithvi Shaw started off with a beautiful backfoot punch which yielded a boundary.
