That will be the end of our coverage for this game. This is me, Akshay Bhide, signing off on behalf of my co-commentator, Tugral Azmi and scorer Ashok. Do join us tomorrow for more cricketing action around the globe. Tata.Bye Bye.
Tim David | Player of the Match: "Feels great to finish on the winning side. We have played two nail-biting contests and are happy to finish on the winning side. Honestly, I felt we fell short by a few runs but chasing that total was always going to be hard but these guys came out hard and made it hard for our bowlers. The dimensions of this ground suit the batters and it is a high-scoring venue. It was great fun to bat with Vilas and enjoyed batting with him. We gotta keep winning and hopefully make it to the finals."
Dane Vilas | Lancashire Skipper: "Really happy with the end result. We were put under a lot of pressure while batting but my partnership with David helped us put up a competitive total on the board. David has been doing this thing for whichever team he has played for the last 18 months and was very exciting to see how he hit those big sixes. We will be looking to keep performing in a similar fashion and carry forward the winning momentum."
David Willey | Yorkshire Skipper:"A fantastic match. The crowd enjoyed it a lot and disappointed that we fell short of the target. These high-scoring games go down to the wire and it was a great spectacle for the fans. It would have gone either way with me staying till the end but we have to lift ourselves and bounce back in the upcoming game."
Akshay: What a dramatic end to this match. End of a
run-fest here at the Headingley. A total of 422 runs were scored in 40 overs
tonight as Lancashire Lightning beat the Yorkshire Vikings by four runs to register their
sixth win of the Vitality T20 Blast 2022. With this win, they retain their position
at the top of the table in the North Group. It was a
daunting task to chase down a mammoth total of 214. Dawid Malan departed
without troubling the scorers in the very first over. Tom Kohler-Cadmore along
with Adam Lyth led the charge with the bat as they scored 72 at the end of the
powerplay. Kohler-Cadmore played some brilliant strokes as raced to his fifty
in no time. Lyth departed in the 10th over with 124 on the board. Kohler-Cadmore’s
innings came to an end when he holed out in the deep against Tom Hartley. He departed
on 77 off 43 balls. Skipper Willey walked out to the middle and continued to
play strokes. He brought up his half-century in no time but lacked support from
the other end as they kept losing wickets at regular intervals. Richard Gleeson
dismissed Willey in the 18th over and pulled back things for his
side. It went down to the wire and Lancashire held their nerves to win the game
by 4 runs to stay unbeaten in the competition. Yorkshire
skipper David Willey won the toss and opted to bowl first. Lancashire Lightning
had a decent start to their innings as they scored 57 at the end of the powerplay
for the loss of one wicket. Just when Lancashire were getting away, Yorkshire
pulled back things with three wickets in quick succession. Tim David and Dane
Vilas joined hands for Lancashire and led the recovery work. After getting set,
both started cutting loose. David hit some mighty blows as he brought up his
fifty off just 26 balls. He looked unstoppable as his knock of 66 off 32 balls
helped Lancashire get close to 200. Dane Vilas in the end remained unbeaten on
40 off just 20 balls to power his side to 213 at the end of 20 overs. Yorkshire
managed to pick up five wickets in the process.
It went down to the wire but it proved to be too much for the hosts as they fell short by four runs which could have been a dramatic win in front of their home crowd.
Umpire review for a clean catch. It's all happening here, folks. It's a fair delivery to start. Hartley right on the edge of the ropes takes a fantastic catch. What an end to this match. OUT is displayed on the big screen and heartbreak for the home crowd as Vikings fall short by four runs.
19.6 D Lamb to D Drakes
W WICKETT!!! Lamb picks up his second wicket of the match!!! In the air and taken. What an end to this match. Lamb bowls it fuller a tad outside off, Drakes slices it high in the air but doesn't get a whole of it, and Hartley stationed deep backward point takes a fantastic catch. The decision is sent upstairs for a clean catch but Hartley's foot is well inside the ropes when he completed the catch. With this, Lancashire beat Yorkshire by 4 runs.
Akshay: 5 from 1 now. Can Drakes deliver as he did in the CPL final last year? 6 to win, 4 for a tie.
19.5 D Lamb to D Drakes
0 A dot ball. Fuller delivery a tad outside off. Drakes looks to drive but misses it on this occasion.
Akshay: Wide ball called and it's now 5 from 2.
19.5 D Lamb to D Drakes
WD WIDEE!!! In the channel outside off. Drakes see off and lets it go through to the keeper. The umpired has signaled a wide.
19.4 D Lamb to M Revis
1 Fuller delivery on the middle, Revis pushes it straight towards the long off and takes a quick single. Yorkshire needs 6 runs of 2 balls left in the innings.
Akshay: The game is not over folks. Revis has deposited the slower ball into the stands and it's now 7 required from the last 3 balls.
19.3 D Lamb to M Revis
6 SIXXX!!!! A much-needed boundary for Yorkshire!!! Fuller delivery on the leg stump line. Revis sets himself deep in the crease as he loft it over the deep mid wicket region and the ball sails well all over the fence for a maximum.
