Wahab Riaz for his spell of 1-13 in 2 overs has been adjudged the Player of the Match as the captain has led from the front. He will be happy with his performance and the performance of the team as his side has become the first team to make it through to the playoffs.
So, for a change, a win by the side batting first here at Abu Dhabi as the Deccan Gladiators defend a total. They win by 19 runs. The Warriors chase never got going and once both the openers were dismissed for 22 the game was as good as over. The skipper Powell also scored 25 of 18 and Whiteley scored 26 of 13 balls but it was too much at the end. 10 extras were given by the Gladiators.
For the Gladiators bowlers, their skipper Wahab Riaz was exceptional in his 1-13 in 2 overs. Odean Smith's only over went for 21 for a wicket. Sultan Ahmed went for 11 and Wanindu Hasaranga went for 22 in 2 including 17 of his 1st over. Raees went for 20 and Russell's 1-23 in 2 overs does not show how he bowled in the last over.
Let's not forget Oshane Thomas's brilliance in the 1st innings which was a 4-fer. Unfortunately, it came at a losing cause.
So, a win for the Gladiators that make them the first team to qualify for the playoffs. The Warriors are all but out I am afraid. Stick around to find out the Player of the Match award.
