Match Details
Earlier in the day, it was Temba Bavuma who won the toss and elected to field first on a tricky surface here at Cuttack. India lost Ruturaj Gaikwad for a single as he was dismissed by Kagiso Rabada for his 50th T20I wicket. Ishan Kishan was the initial aggressor with his 34 off 21 balls. But the likes of Hardik Pandya, Rishabh Pant, and Axar Patel missed out as they failed to make an impact with the bat. Thanks to Shreyas Iyer’s 40 off 35 balls and Dinesh Karthik’s cameo of 30 off 21 balls unbeaten alongside Harshal Patel’s unbeaten 12 runs that they got to a total of 148-6 in 20 overs. It was a fighting total, but well under par.
From South
Africa’s point of view, Kagiso Rabada was excellent in his 4 overs 1 for 15.
Wayne Parnell supported him with his 1 for 23 in 4 overs. Anrich Nortje chipped
in with a couple of wickets in 4 overs for 36 runs. A wicket for Dwaine
Pretorius in his 4 overs 1 for 40. Keshav Maharaj picked up the wicket of Pant
in his 2 overs 1 for 12. Tabraiz Shamsi went for 21 runs in 2 overs. A
brilliant bowling performance to restrict India to 148-6 in 20 overs. It meant that the Proteas had a sub-par total to chase and they did it with fine colors to win the game and take a 2-0 lead in the 5-match series. India with loads of work and thinking to do from hereon. Can they come back or will we witness a 5-0 whitewash by South Africa? We shall find out in the coming games.
So, South Africa wins by 4 wickets with 10 balls to spare. Stay tuned for the post-match presentation coming your way soon.
