DG: And there’s the victory for Scotland. A thorough professional performance from this Scottish side who have ‘ALMOST’ made it through to the Super 12’s. An all-round effort by them and skipper Coetzer will be really pleased with how his troops have played here. PNG played a really good game of cricket and took the game to the wire, thanks to a sensational batting display from Norman Vanua. But eventually they lost the game by just 17 runs and as a result, their journey in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup comes to an end.
PNG did well to restrict Scotland to just 165 on the board. But honestly, even 166 was always going to be a difficult ask for the inexperienced PNG batting lineup and that is exactly what happened. They lost wickets at regular intervals and never really recovered from it. Scotland bowled at the right line and lengths and kept the scoreboard tight. At one stage, PNG were tottering at 6 for 67 and were in danger of getting bundled out cheaply.
But then the lightning struck in the form of Norman Vanua who showed great resilience and took the game to the opposition. He added crucial runs with Doriga and Soper, but it wasn't enough as Scotland had enough firepower in their bowling arsenal to win this game by 17 runs.
