Match Details
Bangladesh Women’s played their first ever game in the ODI’s against the New Zealand Women’s side. The rain was in the focus for about four hours before the play could start. Match was reduced to 28-overs per side earlier and later it was reduced to 27-overs.
Bangladesh Women’s were put into bat by Sophie Devine. Fargana Hoque and Shamima Sultana batted aggressively in the powerplay as they scored 41-runs in the first five overs. They added 79-runs for the first wicket. Shamima played well for her 33 off 36-balls. This was the first ever in their 44-ODIs that they have had a fifty plus partnership for the opening wicket in a consecutive match.
New Zealand pacers were short early on and spinners came on after that. Amelia Kerr, Amy Satterthwaite, and Frances Mackay dried the runs and handed over the pressure back to the batters. In the pressure, they lost wickets at clusters and finished their innings on 140/8. Fargana Hoque on the one side fought hard, bringing her first ever World Cup fifty. She scored 52-runs from 63-balls.
Satterthwaite bowled exceptionally well to pick up three wickets in her 5-overs giving away 25-runs. Frances Mackay was brilliant with both bowl and field as she enforced a couple of run-outs along with a wicket to her name. Amelia was excellent with the ball but went wicketless. Hayley Jensen in her home turf took a wicket.
Suzie Bates then marched on and completed her fifty. She was unbeaten on 79 from 68-balls while Amelia Kerr was not out on 47 from 37-balls. This match-winning unbeaten partnership of 108-runs from 83-delievries took New Zealand Women's home easily in the end. In the process Suzie Bates reached a milestone of completing 1000-runs in the World Cups on her home ground. Bangladesh Women's used 7-bowlers but apart from Salma Khatun no one were able to pick up the wicket.
