Match Details
Earlier in the day, Morgan won the toss and put the Capitals to bat first. His decision to bowl first on a slow and low surface paid off as DC batters struggled to time the ball right from the start. Shikhar Dhawan looked good in the middle, but once he departed, things went downhill for Delhi and the spin duo of Chakravarthy and Narine tighten the screws in the middle phase and barring Smith and Pant, no one looked comfortable against spin. Pant tried his level best, but the slowness of the track took a toll on him as well. In the end, some smart bowling from the KKR bowlers restricted DC to a minuscule total of 127.
The Knight Riders got off to a decent start in the powerplay but the inclusion of the part-timer, Lalit Yadav in the powerplay paid dividends for Rishabh Pant as he scalped the danger man, Venkatesh Iyer cheaply. The in-form Tripathi started his innings with a massive six but couldn’t get going. Quite Surprisingly, Rabada came into the attack after the halfway mark of this chase and put KKR in a precarious situation with a wicket maiden in his first over itself. Ashwin proved his worth once again with a wicket in his final over. He scalped KKR’s skipper for a duck, shifting the momentum towards the Capitals.
Nitish Rana took on Lalit Yadav in the 14th over, striking two mammoth sixes to take the game away from the Capitals. Narine smashed Rabada all over the park easing the job for Rana. A couple of wickets at the death gave hopes to Delhi for a comeback but Rana made sure to take the Men in Purple home with 3 wickets and 10 balls to spare. KKR now have won 3 out 4 matches in the UAE-leg completely turning things around and keeping their playoffs hopes alive.
