Match Details
So that’s that, and it’s the Sydney Sixers that have secured a handsome win by seven wickets and two balls to spare while chasing 178.
Batting first, the Melbourne Stars started off their innings
in a poor manner as they lost both their openers for a total of 6/2. Marcus
Stoinis 3 (5) was dismissed by Ben Dwarshuis, whereas, Joe Clarke didn’t bother
the scorers after getting stumped to Steve O’Keefe.
Nick Lakrin and Glenn Maxwell
consolidated the innings to an extent and accumulated a 53 runs stand. Larkin 23
(35) was out bowled by Dan Christian, but Glenn Maxwell stood strong out there in the middle. The ‘Big
Show’ took his time, batted deep, and then went for his customary big shots in
the final few overs. Maxwell ended up scoring a scintillating knock of 103 (57)
which consisted of 12 fours, and three sixes, while batting at a strike rate of
180.70.
The likes of Hayden Kerr, Dan Christian, Chris Jordan, Ben Dwarshuis and Steve O’Keefe all chipped in with a wicket apiece.
As for the run chase by the Sydney Sixers, James Vince 9 (9) was the first wicket to fall, which was picked up by Nathan Coulter Nile for a score of 30/1 in 4 overs. Moises Henriques and specialist opener Josh Philippe added a 54-run-stand, which provided the sixers with an edge in the game. Henriques was later dismissed, LBW, by leg spinner Adam Zampa. The Melbourne Stars did get that window of an opportunity to bounce back, but Josh Philippe was at his absolute best with the bat. Philippe, with his innovative paddles, and streaky shots got him to a sublime 99*(61). Although Philippe was unfortunate to fall short by a run for his hundred, the wicket keeper batsman will be satisfied to win his side the game while chasing, and in turn climbing at the top of the points table.
Brody Couch, Adam Zampa and Nathan Coulter Nile picked up a
wicket each, but it wasn’t enough for them to stop Josh Philippe and the Sixers
from claiming the 'W'.
The final score of the final innings by the Sydney Sixers stood at 182/3 in 19.4 overs.
