Player Bio

Born in Glasgow, Ruaidhri Smith is a Scottish cricketer who plays for Scotland national cricket team and for Glamorgan in the English County Championship.

Smith has represented the Scotland U-19 team and by 2013 he was playing for the Glamorgan second XI.

The Scottish cricketer impressed his peers with his performances for the second team and was soon promoted to the first XI. He had a notable first-team debut for Glamorgan in 2013 when he dismissed Kents’ Brendon Nash with his first ball in first-class cricket.

Smith is a right-arm medium-pace bowler by profession but is also useful with the bat in the lower-order. Post-2013, he progressed as a batsman and struck his maiden first-class fifty in 2014 against Gloucestershire.

Following two back-to-back stellar seasons with Glamorgan, Scotland awarded him with his first international cap. He made his ODI debut for Scotland against Afghanistan in 2016.

Three years later, Smith’s hard work finally paid off when the bustling all-rounder earned his maiden-call up to the Scotland T20I squad for the 2018-19 Oman Quadrangular Series.

In 2020, Smith re-signed with Glamorgan on a long term basis.

A bits and pieces cricketer, Smith has failed to cement a permanent place in the Scotland limited-overs squad. He certainly has the tools to succeed, but the Glasgow lad has to work hard on his technique, in order to survive at the international level.
