Player Bio

Sheldon Cottrell is a pure entertainer and being a fast bowler it takes some doing to achieve that feat. The Jamaica-born has the skills to hustle batsmen with pace and then pitched up deliveries do the business for him and his team.

Cottrell is not a classical left-arm pacer who can swing the ball back into right-handers outrageously like the others going around and that sometimes proves detrimental in the path of him becoming a dangerous bowler to be left out of the squad. His quirky action also adds to the advantage for him in the shortest format.

The Kingston-based seamer was first noticed by the national selectors of West Indies through his consistencies in domestic cricket and the Caribbean Premier League in the year 2013. He was wicked to feature in the West Indies T20 squad and has not looked back since then.

Series after series, his performances enhanced and he cemented his spot in the West Indies white-ball cricket, and then came to the IPL 2020 auction where he was picked up by the Punjab Kings (formerly known as Kings XI Punjab) for Rs 8.50 crore, from a modest base price of Rs 50 lakh. He featured for the IPL giants in just 6 matches in 2020 and his inconsistency saw him being sidelined from the squad. Prior to the 2021 edition of the IPL, the paceman was released from Punjab Kings and went unsold in the auctions. However, the speedster remains a vital cog in the national setup for West Indies.
