County Championship 2022 Division I | Jamie Smith, Jordan Clark star on Day 2 at Bristol

Riding on Jamie Smith's maiden double-century and a second first-class ton from Jordan Clark, Surrey posted 603 on the board before being bowled out after Tea on Day 2 in the County Championship 2022 Division I game against Gloucestershire at Bristol. The second day of the ongoing combat between Gloucestershire and Surrey slanted in favour of the visitors who posted a monumental total. Sam Curran, who was looking set for a big score, was the first to walk off the field for a score of 64. Colin de Grandhomme couldn't ride on the luck he got at slip off Mohammed Amir's bowling as he departed for 11, leg-before to Matt Taylor. Will Jacks was another prey to Gloucestershire as he never looked settled in the middle. Eventually, he was caught and bowled by David Payne off a top-edged pull shot for 13, which also saw Payne taking his wicket tally to 3. A marvellous 244-run stand between Jamie Smith and Jordan Clark, a record stand for the eighth wicket for the club, saw Surrey making the good numbers before bowling out after Tea. David Payne and Matt Taylor bagged three wickets apiece from the home bowling attack. Graeme van Buuren claimed two while Jack Taylor and Ryan Higgins scalped one wicket each. Mohammed Amir looked out of luck on both days as he bowled well, but the fielders kept missing the opportunities he provided. At Stumps on Day 2, Gloucestershire posted 86 on the second day without loss. Chris Dent and Marcus Harris looked in great touch, timing the ball well and playing some fascinating shots before the close of day. Brief Scores: Gloucestershire 1st Inning: 86 for 0 (Dent 45*, Harris 30*) Surrey 1st Inning: 603 (Smith 234*, Clark 137, Pope 84, Curran 64) Gloucestershire trail by 517 runs.
