Player Bio

A left-arm seamer who is known for his booming inswingers, Sam Rainbird is a professional Australian cricketer who started playing age-group cricket for Tasmania from the U-15s and made gradual progress into the second XI, finally, moving into the senior side in 2012.

Rainbird made his first-class debut against Queensland in November 2012 but had a forgettable debut as Tasmania lost by an innings and 123 runs. Born and brought up in Hobart, Rainbird had a phenomenal 2013-14 season, picking up 18 wickets in 7 matches and was named as the Sheffield Shield Player of the Year for the Tigers.

Rainbird rose to prominence in the opening match against New South Wales, when he dismissed Michael Clarke, Steve Smith and David Warner and finished with match figures of 7-112. After his exploits in the domestic circuit, he earned his maiden Big Bash League (BBL) contract with the Hobart Hurricanes.

After two seasons with the Hurricanes, the 29-year old joined Sydney Thunders in 2018 and prior to the start of the tenth edition of the BBL, he joined Melbourne Stars for more opportunities.
